Wisconsin Lakefront Property Southern Wisconsin Lake Homes and General Information
Are you searching for a home along Wisconsin's southern lakes? That's my specialty and I have been a Realtor in this area for years.
With over 15,000 lakes and hundreds of miles of waterways, not to mention the Mississippi River, Lake Superior and Lake Michigan, Wisconsin makes for a picturesque place to live with plenty to do.
Lake Places in Southern WI
Southern Wisconsin fishing counties are Columbia, Dane, Dodge, Green, Iowa, Jefferson, Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Rock, Walworth, Washington and Waukesha. Each of these counties has multiple lakes with a great variety of fish.
In southern Wisconsin, the Browntown-Cadiz Springs State Recreation Area features two spring-fed lakes. Zander Lake and Beckman Lake are two shorelines known as terrific areas for berry picking. Residents also come to the Browntown-Cadiz Springs State Recreation Area for fishing, swimming, canoeing, sailing, hiking and to watch wildlife.
Also in southern Wisconsin is Lake Geneva, the second-deepest lake in Wisconsin. This lake is considered to be one of the region's best fishing lakes. A great event held along the shores of Lake Geneva is the Lake Geneva Wine Festival. The festival showcases nationally-recognized vintners and chefs while supporting education programs and children's charities.
Things to Do in Southern WI
Wisconsin is rather famous for its cheese. Along Badger Trail, no cyclist goes hungry. The trail starts at Madison and goes for 33 miles, dipping into Little Switzerland, past rows upon rows of cheese shops, bakeries, breweries and markets. In Green County is North America's last Limburger (stinky cheese) factory. Green County is Wisconsin's big name in cheese and is famous for its Swiss as well as Limburger.
Speak, “Uff-da,” and get a glass of beer; Wisconsin is also famous for its beers and Old World flavors. Milwaukee is the home of Miller beer where the public is welcome to tour the factory and sample 10 different Pilsners. In New Glarus, try a Belgian Red, an award-winning cherry beer.
There is always room for art, even amidst the cheese and beer. The lovely village of Mineral Point attracts artists and art enthusiasts with its little cottages from the mining days. Erected in the 1830s, the handsome buildings of the first miners have begun to crumble, but artists have moved in to restore and detail the homes that resembled those of Cornwall miners. Down the street, the Johnston Gallery in the town also displays glass art, jewelry and handbag art.
